There are numerous ways to contribute to Allegheny Valley School. Your tax deductible gift will support our mission and help to improve the lives of the more than 900 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities that we serve.
Capital Development Fund
General contributions to Allegheny Valley School support the Capital Development Fund. Unrestricted gifts are used for the area of greatest need.
Here are some examples of what an unrestricted gift to the Capital Development Fund can mean to Allegheny Valley School:
- We can purchase specialized equipment such as:
- Sensory equipment that helps our residents reinforce their communication skills, fosters their interaction with others, enhances their relaxation and gives them greater control over their environment. The price for sensory equipment is wide-ranging ($50 - $5,000+).
- Standers which increase muscle activity and help the individuals maintain their strength and improve their overall mental health. The cost for one stander begins at $1,500.
- Parker Tubs which make bathing more comfortable for our residents while minimizing back-injuries for caregivers. Each Parker Tub costs in excess of $15,000.
- We can expand the programs we offer to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- We can continue to maintain and improve our facilities and provide safe living environments for the individuals we serve.
Please know that our needs are many and the costs are wide-ranging. A contribution of any amount to the Capital Development Fund is welcomed and appreciated.

Restricted Support
Donors are welcome to designate their contribution for use at a particular location or for a specific project.
To restrict a gift for a particular use, we must receive written instructions directly from the donor. If using our
on-line donation form, click the "Other" box and type in the specific location or project in the space provided.

Memorial and Honorary Giving Program
The Memorial and Honorary Giving Program offers you a meaningful way to extend condolences and/or congratulations to friends and family members while also helping Allegheny Valley School.
A Memorial gift allows you to pay tribute to a departed one by making a gift in their memory to Allegheny Valley School. Memorial contributions are often made in lieu of flowers or sympathy cards.
An Honorary gift allows you to commemorate your living friends and relatives on special occasions by making a gift in their name to Allegheny Valley School. Honorary contributions can be made in honor of a birthday, anniversary, retirement, holiday or any other special occasion.
Memorial and Honorary gifts are applied to the Capital Development Fund and used for the area of greatest need, unless otherwise requested by the donor. To restrict a gift for a particular use, please see the Restricted Support section above.

Matching Gifts
You may be able to double or even triple your dontion to Allegheny Valley School through a Matching Gifts Program. Many corporations offer such programs to their employees and retirees. Check with your employer to find out if it offers a Matching Gifts Program that will enable you to greatly increase your gift to AVS.
In-Kind Donations
Do you have tickets to a show or sporting event that you can't use? Does your business donate tickets or product to non-profit organizations? Are you getting a new computer? Do you have equipment that you think might be of use to Allegheny Valley School?
