Community Group Home living offers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities an opportunity to live with peers in homes located in residential areas in the community. Allegheny Valley School opened its first Community Group Home in 1984. The number of people who live together in one home varies. All of Allegheny Valley School's Community Group Homes are supervised 24-hours a day by qualified staff.
Individuals are encouraged to participate fully in their communities by enjoying picnics in the local parks, attending services at the local churches or synagogues, shopping at the local grocery stores and malls and going to local sporting and entertainment events.
Who can participate?
To be eligible for placement at one of Allegheny Valley School's Community Group Homes an individual must have a primary diagnosis of mental retardation.
