The Supported Living Program offers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a flexible system of formal and informal support services to enable them to live and participate in their local community.
This program was established by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare on the premise that community support relies on family, friends, neighbors and community resources to ensure that individuals are able to live as they choose in their community.
An important goal of the program is to provide persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities with the appropriate individualized support services needed to live independently in an apartment or home.
Who Can Participate?
To be eligible for Allegheny Valley School's Supported Living Program, an individual must have a primary diagnosis of mental retardation. Basic knowledge and skills related to daily living activities, survival skills and community access are also required.
