I'm a nurse at a local Pittsburgh hospital. AVS residents sometimes become our patients. It's obvious to me that they are well-cared for and loved. Their skin is flawless which is no small feat with the mobility and nutrition issues they face. While an individual from AVS is hospitalized, your staff is careful to follow-up and remain involved with their care while at our facility. They are definitely not out of sight, out of mind. Your residents are a concrete tribute to your entire staff and school. Keep up the good work! - Submitted 2008

I was looking at your website and was so excited to see how far you have come and the level of success you have achieved in this field. I worked for AVS in the 80's and loved every minute of it! I always wanted to say thank you for giving me an opportunity to work for your organization as well as thanking you for making me grow as a person. I look back at the residents and staff with fond and loving memories. Congratulations on your success.

AVS continues to be a wonderful caring organization dedicated to giving a quality of life to handicapped individuals. The main goal at all times is to protect the rights and privacy of its residents and to bring them up to their potential abilities. AVS never stops trying!
I thank God for all the help my daughter has received in your caring hands. I want to say that I don't think that I could have provided my daughter all the benefits that she has received over the years to ensure her a happy, healthy life. Keep up the good work AVS!

Our son Darron is cortically blind and has profound mental retardation, spastic quadriplegia and a seizure disorder. He requires tube feeding and 24-hour nursing support. The doctors said that he would die in infancy. Darron is now a young adult and very much alive and well. Allegheny Valley School is a large part of the reason why.
Despite his disabilities, Darron leads a full life that includes school, friends and activities ranging from going to concerts to horseback riding. Allegheny Valley School staff, the doctors and nurses are very competent and caring and have become an important part of our extended family. In addition, the administration is superb. Despite the fact that the Allegheny Valley School system is spread throughout Pennsylvania, our CEO and his staff in Coraopolis have been extremely personal, flexible and responsive to our requests regarding Darron's care.
The closest Allegheny Valley School group home to us, where Darron resides, is over 100 miles away. Although there are closer facilities, we feel that Darron is getting the best possible care, which makes us willing to travel 4 hours round trip to see him several times a month. When we can't be there we rest assured that Darron is not only receiving excellent care, but that he is being loved as well.
To sum up, Allegheny Valley School has helped us make the best of a very challenging situation and we feel both grateful and blessed. - Submitted 2004

Allegheny Valley School has been my brother John's home for more than 40 years and my family is very grateful for the wonderful care he has received. There are many impressive things about AVS - its loyal management and Board, beautiful facilities and dedicated staff. What I value most, however, is that John is treated with dignity and respect. His opinions count. He is offered choices. He is valued. Even though he is not able to speak, John has a voice. I am very thankful that years ago my parents put their trust in Allegheny Valley School.
